![]() I grew up reading Enid Blyton books and dreaming about going to boarding school in the UK, so I was all over the notion of the tuck shop (the place to buy sweets) and copious gallons of tea consumed by the teachers. For readers unfamiliar with the British school system, the story will likely seem extra exotic. Before she made it big in the publishing world, Harris was a school teacher which probably came in handy while writing this story of a public (in Britain this is the equivalent of our private, thus you pay a tuition) school in England. Gentlemen & Players is an intricate mystery by Joanne Harris, an author probably best known for her best-selling novel, Chocolat. ![]() ![]() But not all cases end with an easy prescription. Following the clues-dive-boat operators feeding sharks by hand to entertain tourists, the disappearance of the yearly tuna catch, and the dead sheep New Zealand cargo companies had been tossing overboard-Burgess solves the mystery of the shark attacks for Egyptian tourism officials and offers a list of best practices. The attacks were carried out by Oceanic White Tips and a Mako, deep-water species that had no business being so close to the beach. His most famous case took him to an idyllic Red Sea resort where panic had set in after five attacks occurred in a single week. ![]() ![]() A redoubtable lawyer and an accomplished jurist, Tourg?e's writings represent a mountain of dissent against the prevailing tide of racial oppression. Tourg?e's brief coined the phrase that justice should be "color-blind," and his career was one long campaign to make good on that belief. Elliott provides a fascinating account of Tourg?e's life, from his childhood in the Western Reserve region of Ohio (then a hotbed of abolitionism), to his years as a North Carolina judge during Reconstruction, to his memorable role as lead plaintiff's counsel in the landmark Supreme Court case Plessy v. Now, in this engaging biography, Mark Elliott offers an insightful portrait of a fearless lawyer, jurist, and writer, who fought for equality long after most Americans had abandoned the ideals of Reconstruction. Book excerpt: Civil War officer, Reconstruction "carpetbagger," best-selling novelist, and relentless champion of equal rights-Albion Tourg?e battled his entire life for racial justice. ![]() ![]() This book was released on with total page 400 pages. Percy Jackson and his fellow camper Charles Beckendorf are not about to let any of that happen. When the time to battle their former friends comes-and it will-they will not hesitate to raise arms and fight to the death. Ignored, unclaimed, and disrespected by their godly parents for too long, they listened to Kronos’s promises of revenge and turned their backs on the Olympians. Joining the Titans’ side are hundreds of demigods, some from Camp Half-Blood. They will storm the ancient seat of the gods, and when they defeat them, they will claim Olympus for their own. There, they will focus their attack on Manhattan, specifically the Empire State Building and Mount Olympus high above it. One of Wright’s jobs in Chicago was mail sorter at the Post Office. Having performed well academically until he was forced, in high school, to drop out and begin working, Wright relocated, in 1927, to Chicago-a city that would allow Wright to develop as a writer and thinker, and in which his novel Native Son was based.
